Setting a Chanter Reed
More Information on your Free Virtual Class
What does it mean to "Set" a Reed?
Tuning a chanter is one of the hardest things to do when it comes to playing the bagpipes. However, the vast majority of the problem is in knowing how to properly "set" the chanter reed. Setting the reed means securely seating the reed (using hemp) and then balancing the tuning of the low notes to the high notes. Once you do this, all other tuning issues will be minor! If you did only this, your pipes would already sound quite nice.
What will I learn in this Virtual Class?
In this class, we're going to go from the very beginning, all the way through  getting a well-tuned chanter sound. We'll start by learning to seat the reed properly in the chanter using hemp. Then we'll talk about the effects of raising and lowering the reed in its seat - it changes the tuning, but not in the way most people think it does. Lastly, we'll talk about other "fine-tuning" methods.
